How to reduce the impact natural disasters make
It is impossible to prevent natural disasters, so instead we must reduce the impact that natural disasters leave behind. To do this Canada has made many programs to ensure efficient planning. Canada supports the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and HFA (Hyogo Framework for Action) a plan that reduces the loss of lives and social, economic, and environmental assets when hazards strike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph-HqI2Vn1Y
To reduce the impact natural disasters make we must educate people about what to do in case of a natural disaster (ex. during an earthquake you should drop under stable and heavy furniture, cover your head and torso, and hold on to the object that is covering you). To educate people about what to do in case of a natural disaster, the government should have commercials telling you what to do and schools should have drills. Another way to reduce the impact of natural disasters is to invest in research for better technology that can predict a natural disaster before it happens, so people can evacuate or protect that area from the disaster, for example covering trees before an ice storm.

The number of natural disaster per year is rising. There has been many ideas as to why this is happening for example, that our reporting of natural disasters is getting better, that the world is becoming more populated and the definition of disaster is 10 or more people killed or 100 or more people affected and that is easier to have happen with more people, or that climate change has resulted in extreme temperature changes causing natural disasters.
The debate over climate change can continue, but IF we do nothing and it turns out we are causing the world to have more disasters, we will look back and wonder why we did nothing. The rising of sea levels, the increased temperature of the oceans, the melting of the polar ice cap, are all extreme situations that are going to increase the intensity of floods, hurricanes, ice storms, etc. This shift in the number of disasters has made it difficult for insurance companies to stay ahead of the costs, and the economic impact has grown significantly. Insurance rates have skyrocketed due to the number and size of natural disasters. Our economic well being as well as our health can be effected greatly by natural disasters.
