contamination
- When natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and fires occur contaminants can be released into the atmosphere, water, air, or soil. An example of this happened in the Alberta wildfires in Slave Lake where hydrocarbon dioxins and heavy metals may have contaminated an area.
- Natural disasters resulting in massive structural collapse or dust clouds can cause the release of chemical or biological contaminants into the environment
-floods can destroy drainage and sewer systems in cities causing sewage to contaminate other bodies of water polluting it which can cause a spread of water borne diseases
-Earthquakes can cause massive damage to underground structures ( ie. gas tanks) and can contaminate ground water.
- Tornadoes and Hurricanes can damage crops and organic farms can be contaminated by unwanted seeds and polutants from nearby farms.
